LWF was instrumental in helping the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries re-open Elmer’s Island to the public in 2009 and thousands of anglers, beach combers and bird watchers have benefitted from that hard work since. Elmer’s is open from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset each day. The beach can be accessed via a gravel road leading from LA Hwy 1 just north of Grand Isle.
