Migratory Bird Day at Red River NWR - Saturday, April 20th
You're invited to celebrate International Migratory Bird Day at the Red River National Wildlife Refuge this Saturday, April 20, from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Birds walks will take place at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Free loaner binoculars for adults and children, backpacks, and bird field guides are available in the Nature Store in the Visitor Center for your use during the bird walks or just to explore the Refuge on your own.
Fun bird-related art and educational activities will be ongoing throughout the day.
The event is free and open to the public.
Bird migration is in full swing as birds who left North America to winter in Central or South America return for the nesting season. Some will join our year-round NW Louisiana resident birds while others will continue farther north. At the same time, birds who migrated no further than the southern U.S. for the winter are departing for their breeding grounds to the north of us.
