Bobcat Hunting Season

WHEREAS, bobcats are plentiful in Louisiana due to declining fur harvest and abundant suitable habitat, and

WHEREAS, bobcats have few natural enemies and the incentive to trap them is not adequate to insure that any surplus bobcat population is harvested, and

WHEREAS, an overabundance of bobcats can reduce populations of small game.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Louisiana Wildlife Federation urges that a recreational hunting season and bag limit for bobcat be set by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission after study of the bobcat population by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and, assessment of the feasibility of a recreational bobcat harvest.

Adopted by the Louisiana Wildlife Federation in convention assembled, 62nd Annual Meeting, March 4, 2001 in Many, Louisiana.
