2017 Louisiana Youth Hunters of the Year
Lydia Capritto of St. Martinville and Cameron Dauzat of Effie were honored with plaques for taking the top places in the annual Youth Hunter of the Year Program. The Youth Hunter of the Year Program is a joint effort with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Louisiana Wildlife Federation and the Louisiana Outdoors Writers Association.
Cameron embarked on an afternoon hunt in early December, 2017. Alongside his father, David, Cameron was able to take a small deer on the Dewey Wills Wildlife Management Area, a trip that earned him a spot as the Male Youth Hunter of the Year.
Lydia’s earned her spot as the Female Youth Hunter of the Year for taking a giant turkey. Measuring 21 pounds, 12-inch beard and 1.25-inch spurs, Lydia took this turkey while on a youth lottery hunt mid-March 2017 in the Atchafalaya Basin.
The Youth Hunter of the Year program is made possible by the generous donations from South LA Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association, Andrew Harrison with Harrison Law, the Baton Rouge Chapter of Delta Waterfowl,, LLC, the Louisiana Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and Bowie Outfitters in Baton Rouge.
