LOUISIANA WILDLIFE FEDERATION JOINS DOZENS OF ORGANIZATIONS TO COMMENT ON PEARL RIVER PROJECT

The proposed One Lake project that would dam the Pearl River in Jackson, Mississippi would have a negative impact on the Pearl River downstream. Louisiana Wildlife Federation joined dozens of other organizations on letters of comment to the US Army Corps of Engineers and Rankin Hinds Pearl River Flood & Drainage Control District for a call for extended public comment periods and correct the deficiencies that create significant barriers to the public’s ability to meaningfully comment on this highly controversial topic. Currently, the Pearl River project is not in compliance with the National Environmental Protection Act(NEPA) and our organizations urge that the Rankin Hinds District take the necessary steps in order to comply with the NEPA and other bedrock environmental laws. In addition, our organizations urge that the US Army Corp of Engineers take over the public policy comment process and see to it that the Pearl River study complies with the NEPA.
