Thank you for your responses telling Louisiana’s Congressional delegation members you do not support transferring land in Kisatchie National Forest in Grant Parish to local or private control. LWF forwarded messages from more than 1,400 people in Louisiana to our delegation. It’s because of you and others who took quick action that the Grant Parish Restoration Plan no longer includes transferring Kisatchie National Forest.
Since the Grant Parish Police Jury discussed it in their meeting of May 14 and voted to oppose this proposal, people became more aware and increasingly worried this valuable land was at risk for changes in long-term use.
When Senator Cassidy filed S.4584 this week in Congress, he committed to not including the proposed transfer of federal asset transfers. We appreciate him listening to all of our concerns about protecting Kisatchie National Forest.
Louisiana Wildlife Federation remains firmly opposed to any transfer of Kisatchie National Forest lands out of federal ownership and management. Kisatchie National Forest belongs to the American public and the citizens of Louisiana, not any single parish government or localized policy experiment. The forest is already actively managed under science-based federal frameworks for forestry, wildlife habitat, prescribed burning, recreation, hunting, fishing, watershed protection, endangered species recovery, and public access. It is crucial that it remain as managed.
